Tactile Embellishment by Jilli K
I have recently been working on a creative project, which will, in time, become part of a larger project incorporating many creative hands. This one-off piece of fabric (it is actually a scarf – see photo) has become the inspiration for what will be a very unique and beautiful framed piece of fabric artwork. My challenge was to decorate this fabric depicting two elegant ladies without overworking it and losing its natural charm.
I used embellishments such as gorgeous hand-made buttons made by a mother and son team (intellectual disability social enterprise). The idea that their creative buttons are utilized in our art validates their amazing work.. and we love the resin and ceramic buttons.. In addition I incorporated tassels donated by Eileen Middleton Interiors. THANK-YOU we love them! I meticulously sewed on each piece of fabric and embellishment by hand, and it will soon by ready for framing. (Now just to locate a Framer keen to support our charity)
This project will provide inspiration for some exciting future creative projects, which will incorporate the talent of our disability creatives and our volunteer sewers. Michelle will work with our students who will love learning how to embellish at a whole new level!
Cheers Jill
